General Information

SBR is an economic, general purpose elastomer. Also known as Buna-S, it was originally developed to replace natural rubber in the manufacture of tyres. This commodity material is generally used when there is no special need for resistance to heat or ageing. It resists water, saline solutions and weak acids. It also has very good resistance to fatigue, but is not very resistant to chemical agents, except polar ones, such as alcohols and ketones. It is likewise suitable for use in contact with car brake fluid; however, it is not resistant to petroleum-based fluids or oils. It performs twice as well at low temperatures. Reinforced SBR with a metal core is ideal for the manufacture of gaskets for flanges in high pressure systems. The gaskets remain in place even under very high pressure.
